How to Pick Your Hairstylist
Are you picky about your hair? With the cost of hair care, you have a right to be. You may have to do some research and try different stylists until you find one that you are satisfied with.
Here are some suggestions that you may want to consider.
Who do your friends go to? Do you like the way their hair is styled? Word of mouth is the easiest and best way to find helpful advice. If you come across a stranger or a co-worker and like their hair ask them who styles it. They will be forever flattered and you have just found a good stylist.
Visit several salons and make sure, they look clean and orderly. Most salons offer a free consultation. Ask questions and discuss various options. Have a specific list of questions ready, especially if you are considering a radical change such as a different hair color or much shorter hair.
Do you like the salon? The atmosphere? Interview the stylist and ask for suggestions? Do you feel as though you have their undivided attention? The stylist should be focused on you and should be concerned about your desires and wishes. If not, move on.
You can usually tell once you walk in, if a salon and if the hair stylists are up to date. Ask questions, regarding hair care products, hair trends, services and prices. If you have a particular style in mind, bring in a picture. The stylist should be able to tell you if it would be a good look for you based on your hair texture and the shape of your face.
Some salons have current technology which allows you to customize your style and cut with a computerized image. This will allow you to try on different styles and colors. This would be good especially if you are considering a radical change. Keep an open mind. The stylist may have a suggestion for you that you have not considered. Be open to suggestions even if they seem rather far fetched.
Once you have selected a stylist, ask for a detailed consultation and make sure you allow for plenty of time for a thorough discussion. You may need extra time for a hair treatment if you have dry or damaged hair. Do not expect miracles. Ths stylist cannot make you look like a movie star with a haircut! Be realistic about your expectations and how you are going to look.
Think ahead. A good stylist will be booked weeks some times months ahead. You may want to book appointments throughout the rest of the year if you need a regular cut and/ or color. Most importantly, enjoy the experience. The stylist is there for you and you should look at it as a luxurious treatment to pamper yourself.
