Proper Hair Combing

Have you thought about how you comb your hair and the overall affect it has on your hair? Really? Most people routinely comb their hair without thinking twice about it. In today’s society hair styles have become a fashion statement. The care and upkeep of your hair can be expensive, so you may want to consider starting with the basics, and learning the correct way to manage your hair style by using a comb.

Did you know that your overall health may reflect in your hair? If your hair is dry and itchy, most likely you have a dry scalp and desperately need moisturizer. If your hair tends to be oily, most likely you have oily skin and a complexion that tends to break out.

If you go to the drugstore for a comb, you may be overwhelmed by the choices. There are large and small, brightly colored, metal and plastic, hair picks and brushes. Depending on the length of your hair and whether you are styling or combing your hair, you may want to review the variety of choices before making a selection.

Combing your hair should be a gentle process. If your hair is tangled, never jerk the comb through your hair and tear your hair out. If your hair is tangled, try to ease the comb through the tangle and work it out.

Do not comb your hair when it is soaking wet. Use a towel to soak up some of the moisture. If you are styling your hair now is the time to add mousse or hair gel. Massage the styling product into your hair and comb through it.

Combing your hair approximately 2-3 times a day is sufficient. Try not overdo it as this can cause your hair to become oily.

A hair pick is different from a comb and is used for styling purposes. A hair pick is used to lift and style your hair. A comb is used to untangle hair so that it looks smooth and silky.

Your comb should be washed on a regular basis with soap and water. If not, oils will collect between the teeth of the comb and your hair will look greasy.

Do not share a comb with others. Bacteria and other germs can collect on the comb and can be spread easily. Hair lice is particularly contagious and may be caught if you use someone else’s comb.

The best way to prevent tangle free hair is to use a conditioner. This will soften your hair and make it much easier to comb through.

The first step towards beautiful, flowing golden locks, is combing your hair. Start with the basics and then go from there.
